Cannock Chase

The region in England, Cannock Chase, is stuffed full of herbs, fauna, roots of magic, spirits and moisture. One of the most "land locked" places in England, bang in the centre, considered the Heart of England. It's one of the most eerie, supernatural and spookiest with a dense history and famed for legends of monsters, UFO's and bloodshed. It can be regarded as a portal area. People behave bizarre, at times, using extreme violence, sadism, mass murder, and indulging in weird sexual practices. The psychology effected by the sheer amount of intense paranormal energy vacume possibly.
Sightings of mysterious big cats, wild men, Bigfoot, werewolves, black dogs, black eyed kids, demonic entities, communities of ghosts, UFO reports and witches centred in the deepest part of England's "green and pleasant land". Much of this has become urban legend, folklore stories, dreaming and make believe, adding to the vibrant and horrid reputation of death.
Cannock Chase is a beautiful dense forest with hills and ruins. It attracts tourists as well as wild animals and birds. Fertile and noisy of life, it's also like a miniature jungle of the cold north. However, Cannock Chase was originally too hard and stubborn to grow crops, with sand, rocks and massive trees. In Medieval times the wilderness of Cannock Chase was bought by the church and owned by royalty. By the 16th Century, the ancient forests were chopped down leaving a bare barren miserable grey blight that was then Cannock Chase, until the 1920's when fresh soil and trees were planted. This Cannock Chase was made into a reforested zone in particular to act as a military training ground with large camps. During WW2 the R.A.F. pretty much owned the area. The place now has a military graveyard.

Food walk

Recently I discovered a Food Walk expedition in the local woods and fields. It was a search for wild edible plants, mushrooms and fruit. My daughter was invited by her friends to go on a blackberry picking outing. I've eaten plenty of wild berries that I know are safe to eat. I was taught this from my nan who picked berries to use in cooking.
Some of the most edible wild foods in nature to pick and eat are:
Mushrooms - Agaravis arvensis, "horse mushroom", Amanita rubescens "blusher", Armillaria mellea "honey fungus", wood ears, wood mushrooms, oak bolete, Boletus edulus, Chanterelle, Beefsteak fungus and shggy parasol. These are a few of the edible mushrooms.
Berries - Hawthorn, Blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, cherry, dewberry, gooseberry, black and red currants, apple and rose hip.
Plants - Amarinth, Asparagus, Burdock, Cattail, Clover, Chicory, dandilion, fireweed, kelp, seaweed, white mustard and common sorrel.
Be careful when going on a field trip to do any foraging of wild foods. Make sure you have a guide and some experts.

Thunder

Thunder is a frightening force of energy, that's a build up of pressure, temperature and moisture, and according to science, it is just hot air. The vision of a storm is felt by those who are used to being with nature. Some are prone to feeling the changes in weather. In my experience, I've sensed when thunder is going to happen.
1. Intense heat/
2. A pressing against my ears, as if I'm under water.
3. The sky clouds over, and the clouds are yellowish.
4. The air smells like a fizzy drink.
5. A low soft rumble that's barely noticeable until it starts to rain.
The full force of thunder begins. Notice how the approach of a storm never acts angrily at the start. It begins with a low gentle whispering sound like distant horses running on the hills. Thunder in it's whole experience of that time is like experiencing nature's own orchestra.
As a kid I was fascinated by thunder.
Despite it's beauty, thunder and lightning is dangerous and hazardous.

Communicate

There is one particular way that you can invoke Thor, the god of thunder Himself.
Hold a Mjolnir and visualise a Mjolnir. You need to be alone, with a quiet space, and not be disturbed by anyone or anything. Unplug the TV, switch off the phone, and shut the doors and windows. It can be during night or day. Strongest during a rain and even stronger during a thunder storm.
You can speak out loud or whisper, He can hear you.
You also have to believe in Him and if not, forget it. You need to make sure that you are sat comfortably. You have to feel relaxed in your own choice of setting, be it a room or outdoors. Make sure that you don't feel upset at the time, for instance, if you have a tummy ache, or dislike the smell of oil and sat around dirt. You need to be totally calm, relaxed, at peace with where you sit.
You're allowed to have pets near you so long as they don't play up.
Visualise the Mjolnir in your mind and close your eyes. Imagine the Mjolnir as being made of light, or golden. Once you've done that, still holding your own Mjolnir in your hand, visualise that you touch this imagined Mjolnir and it feels hot.
You may even flinch at the heat. If so then you're at a level now where you are able to send your message.
You can talk to Him. You can ask for His guidance.
Once you've finished, thank Him for listening to you. Open your eyes, let go gently of the Mjolnir and at ease get up and do your normal things, switch the TV on, switch phone on, and have a drink. Do anything that's part of your day to day ritual. Or continue to read a book, have a bath, go for a drive, hang out with friends, go to bed, whatever.
Over the course of the day, look for any special clues that relate to Thor.
If you find any, or recognise it, that's Him sending you symbolic messages.

O Powerful Thor

Some prefer to invoke Thor during a thunderstorm. You need to believe in Him first and call Him.

Invocation to Thor:

"Hail, Thor, Lord of the Hammer!
Lord of the Storm, rumbling chariot
That tears across the sky,
Lord who speaks plainly
And has no time for intrigue
And subtle ploys,
Protector of the common man,
Warrior beloved by farmers,
Help us to untwist our tongues
And speak the fiery truth
Hurled blazing like a hammer-bolt
Across the open sky!
"

Found from "The Pagan Book of Hours"

This is a small piece from a fuller article of Norse Mythology site about Thor
Thor ... is one of the most prominent figures in Norse mythology. He was a major god of all branches of the Germanic peoples before their conversion to Christianity, although he reached the height of his popularity among the Scandinavians of the late Viking Age.

Runestones

These magnificent large standing stones with runic inscriptions are found throughout the Viking and Anglo-Saxon landscape. They look impressive. They're many centuries old and some several thousand of them have been recorded but it doesn't mean there are some unaccounted for, undicovered and lost. Runestones were the memorials and headstones. Some were full of stories about gods and myths. Others were set with images of animals. Some runestones acted as gates. A list of just a few runestones and more can be found here:

Sacred poison

Thor, the god of thunder, sometimes named Thunor, is associated with many plants. He was regarded as the god of thunderstorms as well as fertility and the land. Farmers used to worship him and called upon him to bring thunder and rain in order to grow crops.
I mentioned Burdock in a previous post that this is one of the plants of Thor Himself. Now the pretty blue flowers in the picture on this entry are Aconite, also called wolf's bane, monkshood, blue rocket and Thor's helmet. It's a poisonous flower, belonging to the Ranunculasae species that also include family members like the buttercup and clematis. It's one of the oldest plant families on earth. The Aconitum Aconite grows in chilly hilly landscapes of the Northern hemisphere. Associated with wolves and it's folklore place in werewolf stories, the origins of that may be linked to ancient myths of Cerberus, the three-headed dog of the underworld. Also the side effects of eating wild Aconite is strikingly similar to the effects of rabies. Throughout European history were legends of monstrous dogs carrying poisonous rabies like Cerberus, Fenrir and Garm, the Norse and Germanic hellhounds. Aconite was also used by the berserkers and ulfhednar to help gain werewolf strength. The ancient tribes of Germany called Aconite "storm helmet". Arrowheads were dipped in Aconite poison and so this toxic plant was the earliest ingredient for ancient biological warfare.

Summer thunder

Twice since the first day of July 2015 there's been thunderstorms here in this part of England.I've seen it form right above my house and the sky turned dark with electric clouds. It was after a hot few days. The thunder started off like exploding cannons on a battle field, or very loud sonic booms. There was no rain or lightning except a series of bangs. Then I left the house to head for school. As soon as I left the front door, lighting and massive roars of thunder followed by gushes of rain. I ran straight to the building without pause. Still it was so hot. I'm in awe but still.
That's my weather chat over with. There's nothing like a summer thunderstorm. Even the summer rain is very severe. I need a honeydew fizz now.

Gold stars

Gold crystals are rare and some crystallised gold are found in quartz. These magical combinations are a striking of hot and cold, the sky and the earth. Gold is a potent and magical metal, with bases in history, legends and folklore, philosophy and symbolism. Gold crafts and golden coinage has been used for so long in human history founded on the trails of the blazing stars that brought the noble metal here to begin with.

It is mainly believed that gold is made from stars. Most of the world's gold sank to the earth's core during the earth's beginnings when it was a molten hot planet. Although a soft and edible metal, it has a very tough immune system that is resistent to acids and errosions.

The word "Gold" is from the Anglo Saxon "gaolo" and the ancient Germanic word gulda, "gleam" and "glow" as well as the Latin "aurum" or aurora. Atomic number of gold is 79, meaning AU and from Latin "aura".

There are too many stories about gold to put all in one entry today. There is the tale of King Midas who turned everything to gold by his touch. The legend of the golden fleece that healed wounds. Golden apples that gave immortality. Even the sought after city of gold El Dorado. It's all hypnotic but deep beneath the drooling lust for wealth and power, there is the misunderstood goal to reach for the stars, where gold came from and will take us, physically and spiritually.

Flower of thunder

The god of thunder, Thor/Thunor, is associated with many plants, including the oak, thistle, rowan and monksroot.
His particular flowers, his maidens of beauty and protection, are called Arctia, or burdocks. These plants are of the Thistle family group.
Born from roots rich in iron, these delicate purple flowers bloom and then turn spiky like little ultra violet stars. These flowers are filled with medicinal juices, healing powers and nutrients.
The flowers' roots are edible, and classed as a salad, eaten raw and cooked.
Burdock is associated with protection and can be used as a special amulet to ward off evil spirits. It's healing and positive energies make it an ingredient for perfumes, bubble baths and insense. Burdock is able to purify blood and ailments.

Carnelian hammer

Here is a photograph of my pretty orange coloured crystal Thor's Hammer. It's made of carnelian and feels very smooth, gentle, warm and magical to the touch. The powerful shape of the Mjollnir (Thor's Hammer), full of vibrant strength and force is combined with the healing aspects of the canelian rock that it's carved from. Carnelian crystals themselves bring courage and passion forth from those who feel little or no confidence. The colour itself represent feminine fire (love, menstrual blood, the solar energies of the sun goddess, spices, magic and imagination). Carnelians in the form of a Thor's Hammer can help increase the wearer's stamina. I certainly feel extremely energetic and bright wearing this lovely carnelian Mjollnir.

The Solar Eclipse

Yesterday morning was the full partial solar eclipse. I managed to take several photographs of it using my digital camera despite clouds. Most of the pictures I made were either too over exposed or showed a light but the one using non-flash was the best photo I captured of the sun eclipse. After the eclipse, I refreshed myself by having a gentle soak in a bath with warm lavender water.

My disk wheel

A few years ago I made a disk wheel. I had to do this very carefully using protractor, rular, compass, mirror card, paper scissors and a red felt pen. I made a circle and cut it out using craft scissors. With the disk showing a metallic mirror on one side and paper on the other, I made measurements and added some runes around the edge of the circle. I used a H pencil at first and then filled it in with ink. Then I cut out a symbol of my birth sign Aries from a magazine and placed it in the centre of the disk.I keep the disk wheel in a small box and I took a couple of photos of it.

My own bind rune

This image of my rune has been on my other blog "She Wolf Night" for years. The story behind the rune is this. I was making letters of my full name into Elder Futhark runes. Then I tried to connect them to form a shape but it looked messy. So I decided to meditate on it. During meditation, Thor Himself revealed to me how the runes of my name can be properly done to form a tidier bind rune shape. I sometimes use automatic writing and after that experience, I used that technique to follow the pattern. I learned how to draw the bind rune shape and drew it on the computer, using web paint tools to add a golden border and turn the drawing into gold. This is how I finished the bind rune and there it is, a bind rune that means my whole name. What I used for this was, pen, paper, computer paint tool, meditation for inspiration, and automatic writing.

Inspiration

Hi everyone. This is my new blog devoted to the gods, spell work, runes, magic and random stuff. I'm a Heathen priestess and dedicated to Thunor, god of thunder, and Sol/Sunna, the goddess of the Sun.
